NatureLink Perth: a community of practice
Join our community of practice. We are working together to connect nature and people across the Perth and Peel regions.
We began in 2019 with a team of 12 undergraduate students from Environmental and Conservation Science at Murdoch University who, in 4 months, interviewed over 80 organisations asking, “What are the barriers and opportunities to integrating nature into our city?” Compiling the answers they created a symposium, inviting key experts to share their knowledge. Interactive audience participation throughout the event led to the creation of our community of practice in July 2019.
Our community is inclusive. It is important that all facets of society work together to integrate nature into our city. Our community of practice includes organisations and people from state and local governments and agencies, science, business, natural resource management, consultants, developers, education and community.
What is a ‘community of practice’?
A ‘community of practice’ has no formal obligations imposed on individuals or organisations but is rather a group of stakeholders with a common pursuit of shared goals, each contributing information and resources as they wish, with a mutual desire to partner/work together towards a nature-linked city.

Our community of practice has different levels of participation:
Core Strategic Network
Representatives from diverse organisations provide leadership, strategic direction and networking across the NatureLink community.
Working collaboratively, the network helps identify opportunities, strengthen partnerships and guide priorities that support NatureLinks across Perth and Peel.
The Director
The Director coordinates the activities of the NatureLink community, connecting people, organisations and opportunities across the network.
This includes supporting collaboration, managing internships and helping turn shared ideas and priorities into practical outcomes.
Our Interns
Since 2019, more than 50 undergraduate interns, along with Honours, Masters and PhD students, have worked with organisations across our community.
These partnerships create new knowledge, resources and practical techniques, many of which can be explored in our Resources.

Subscribers
Our subscribers are an active community helping create action on the ground. Today, the network includes more than 700 people and over 100 organisations.

Wider Community
The wider Perth community is an important part of NatureLink, even without being involved in its day-to-day activities.
Our resources, workshops, events and shared knowledge are designed to benefit the broader community and encourage greater connection with nature.
The newsletter and this website provides a place to share information and resources so we can work together, creating synergies that exceed our individual efforts. It’s great to be part of a bigger design, so you can see how your actions fit into an ongoing transition of Perth into a nature-linked city.
